Huckleberry Spritzer

New Year’s 2012 I was visiting Stephanie in Boise where she introduced me to Huckleberry Wine… I finally fell in love with wine.

When Stephanie was visiting Matt this past summer in the Grove, she brought me a bottle of Huckleberry Wine. She actually bought two: we drank one and I kept one. Since this is the start of my birthday week, the weather has been amazing, and our Portland trip is in three days, I figure a spritzer would be a great way to kick off the celebrations!

I’ve never made a spritzer before so I wasn’t quite sure what to add to the wine. I was leaning towards club soda or sprite. We used to add sprite to our drinks all the time in college but I wasn’t sure if it’s classy enough to add to wine… So I decided to do a sampler- one spritzer with club soda, one with tonic water, and one with ginger ale. The ginger ale seems really random to add but for some reason it just sounded so good plain in a cup of ice so I felt compelled to buy it in the store. Really random considering that I honestly think I’ve only had ginger ale once in my life but it just sounded good! Anyway, back to the spritzer.

The following combinations were created:

  • Club soda w/Huckleberry Wine
  • Club soda w/Huckleberry Wine and a splash of Limoncello
  • Tonic water w/Huckelberry Wine and a splash of Limoncello
  • Ginger ale w/Hukleberry Wine

My lovely mom graciously offered to be my taste tester and the winning combination turned out to be the first one: Club soda w/Huckleberry Wine and a slice of lemon. The fruity taste of the wine coupled with the club soda is truly refreshing and makes me so excited for summer! Hope you enjoy! What’s your favorite summer spritzer?
