I consider it a win that I did not eat Halloween candy for breakfast today. Unfortunately, I’m sure my continual snacking on it throughout the day is just as worse. Those mini kit-kats are just so addicting!! Tomorrow I will try to be better… You see, …
It’s hard to believe that Halloween is tomorrow. I feel like I’m just now getting used to it being 2015 and we only have two months left in the year! I love Halloween! And although I can’t remember the last time I actually dressed up for …
We had a bag of Peanut M&Ms lying around so naturally I had to make cookies. Also, I didn’t want to devour the entire bag of M&Ms while watching Bachelor in Paradise. Because let’s be honest for a moment, that definitely would have happened. Speaking of Bachelor in Paradise, have you been watching?!? It’s definitely my guilty pleasure TV show right now. I watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette seasons but Bachelor in Paradise is so much better! All the drama and tears makes me feel a whole lot better about my own love life and that I haven’t quite reached that level of desperation…. yet. Ask me again in 5 years and we’ll see where I am at. In all honesty though, if Ben H or Ben Z are the next bachelor, I’m going to be slightly disappointed that I didn’t go to one of the casting calls. I guess I’ll just have to make another batch of these cookies to soothe my broken heart.
If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen that I made The Pioneer Woman’s Spicy Baked Beans (results coming this week!). To say I’m a Pioneer Woman fan would be an understatement… I want to marry a farmer and live on a ranch and cook all day too! Side note, one of my favorite books is The Dirty Life, a memoir about a city girl who marries a farmer and moves to the farm. Highly recommended!
Well, I’ve been eyeing The Pioneer Woman’s Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies for a while so when I saw the M&M bag, I figured browned butter M&M cookies would be just as good! I only brown one stick of butter and that is just enough to give the cookies a carmel-y flavor. Plus, the smell of the browned butter infuses the entire kitchen and makes your house feel cozy and fall like. And, well, fall is the best time of year! If you need a cookie fix, these are for you. Enjoy 🙂

Ingredients:
2 sticks of butter, 1 browned and 1 softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp vanilla (yes, 1 whole tablespoon!)
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup peanut M&Ms
1 chocolate bar, chopped
Directions:
Brown one stick of butter by melting the stick in a saucepan on low heat. It will bubble and foam and turn a carmel-y brown color. Remove from heat and cool for about 10 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and both sugars. Slowly add the browned butter.
Add the egg and vanilla and mix until incorporated.
Add the flour, salt and baking soda. Once mixed, stir in the chocolate and M&Ms.
Cover dough and let sit in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Don’t skip this step!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Scoop dough onto baking sheet and bake 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!
I’m on a health kick… again. Remember, I strive for progress not perfection blah, blah, blah… but with this smoothie, I don’t feel like I have to give anything up! This is the summer of oatmeal and coconut. Lately, I can’t seem to make a recipe …
Coconut and chocolate- now that’s a winning combination right there! I’ve had a hankering for coconut desserts lately. Ever since I made these Haystack Energy Bites (which I’ve made 3 times in the last month and plan on making another batch this weekend…), I have been craving all …
One major perk of the fiancé’s new job is that we both get memberships to the athletic club in town. I attempted to get into running a few summer’s ago, when Kelly and I did the San Francisco Half Marathon, buuuuttt after we ran that race I kind of got out of my work out routine. I think part of me died on the Golden Gate Bridge that morning and I never fully recovered.
Now that we’re officially in our first Southern summer, I’m realizing you don’t actually do anything outside. The humidity hasn’t been terrible yet, but you do any sort of physical activity outdoors and you’re sweating. It’s disgusting. Needless to say I’m pretty excited we have a gym.
I’ve never been that great about eating those protein packed pre or post workout snacks. That is what you’re supposed to do, right? I don’t even know. I do know though that the fiancé always makes himself chocolate milk and I’m always jealous. Why does he have a tasty treat and I just pour myself water?!
That’s when I decided to combine a few of my favorite things (pb, bananas, and chocolate) into a delicious smoothie as a reward for actually going to the gym and not binge watching Season 3 of Orange Is The New Black.
Obviously I knew this was going to be good, this is one of my favorite flavor combinations, but I didn’t realize just how good it was going to be! I originally planned on sharing the smoothie, but then had to make a second because I slurped the first one down too quickly. And also because I’m a terrible sharer. But seriously! This is one of the best smoothies I’ve ever made. Not exaggerating.
It’s sweet enough it feels like a treat, yet healthy enough you don’t feel guilty drinking it after the gym. If you’re like me and love the peanut butter, banana, chocolate combo you’ve got to give this a try!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp chocolate milk powder (I used Nesquick)
1 c Blue Diamond Almond Milk
Add all ingredients to blender and pulse until smooth
*Alternatively, use 1 fresh banana and a few ice cubes if you don’t have frozen bananas on hand
*I personally like to put the smoothie in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to make it more of a frozen slushy/milkshake consistency
My grandmother once told me that ice cream “is just milk, cream, and sugar- it’s really not that bad for you, Kelly.” I chose to believe her and as a result, I liberally consume ice cream on a regular basis. Thanks, Mimi, for justifying my …
My roommate and I just celebrated our 5 year anniversary (awwww!). It’s true, somehow we survived 5 years under the same roof without killing each other. For two twenty-something year old girls? That’s a cause for celebration. I know other people make Better Than Sex …
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Last year we gave you an Irish Gold Cocktail and Irish Soda Bread. Then Kelly actually went to Ireland and came back with Irish Brown Bread and a Hot Whiskey drink. You have tons of Irish options, but do you see what we’re missing here? Dessert!
I made Brown Eyed Baker’s Irish Car Bomb cupcakes a few years back and they were TO.DIE.FOR. But…they were pretty time consuming. I’ve been feeling awfully lazy in the kitchen lately, so I decided to forgo the Guinness and Bailey’s and just stick with the Jameson.
These cupcakes are rich: moist and oh so chocolatey with that extra added flavor from the whiskey. Any whiskey or bourbon would work, but I stuck with Jameson to keep with the Irish tradition.
What are your guys’ plans tonight? I’m not a huge St. Patty’s fan, but I’m sure we’ll end up celebrating in some way. Even if it’s just by eating these cupcakes.
Guys, I made mint chocolate chip ice cream this weekend. It didn’t quite turn out… The mint flavor was great! And I have a thing about mint chocolate chip ice cream needing to be green (I don’t like white mint chocolate chip ice cream- I …
