If we’re being honest here, I’m not much of a frosting person. I’ll eat it, but I’d prefer whatever is underneath. Frosting kind of just gets in the way. When I made this Red Wine Chocolate Cake, I knew I wanted to incorporate the fruit …
Remember when I took that cake decorating class to prepare for the wedding that was months away? Well, it’s now only a month a way. Time to kick it into gear! I just started a new job about 3 weeks ago that I love and …
Only one weekend into the NCAA tournament aaaaannddd my bracket is officially busted. Kelly’s too. We tried to be different and not pick Kentucky to win it all, but that clearly didn’t work out in our favor.
Filling out brackets is a yearly tradition. I remember when we were little, Dad would print out brackets for my sister and I. We would fill them out round by round, so each game we had a 50/50 chance of choosing the correct winner.
I like college basketball, but I don’t follow it religiously. So when tournament time rolls around and everyone else is using statistics and over thinking how to choose that perfect bracket, I rely on my trusty secret method. Wanna know what it is? Pick the teams with random letters in their names. Xavier. Marquette. Villanova…
Obviously it didn’t work well for me this year (thanks a lot Nova :/) but hey…the odds of a perfect bracket are 1 in 2.4 trillion! May as well have fun with it. We’re a Syracuse family, so it’s been a rough year for us without our team in the tournament, but this is always a fun time of year regardless.
Even if you don’t participate in March Madness, I’m sure you have friends and coworkers that do. And I guarantee these basketball cupcakes will be the Cinderella story of the viewing party.

Yellow cake with chocolate frosting- could there be a better cake combination?! As I have previously mentioned in other posts, I am making my best friend’s wedding cake. A wedding cake is a lot of pressure so I want to make sure that it looks …
While Steph was relaxing in Cabo and surviving a hurricane (check it our here!), I was drowning my twinge of jealousy that I wasn’t relaxing on a beach in Mexico with her in these Applesauce Cupcakes w/Cinnamon Buttercream. Because, come on, who doesn’t drown their …

In looking over the past few months of recipes here at Long Distance Baking, I’ve come to realize we use a lot of frosting around here! But it is usually more behind the scenes, while the baked treats get all the attention. It’s time for frosting …
To be honest, I really didn’t know that royal icing was “fancy” or that many people rarely or never use it. We just called it “frosting” and it was the only way I knew how to frost cookies! Royal icing will dry into a smooth, …
