Holiday Stove Top Potpourri
What is your favorite of the five senses to enjoy the holidays? Is it taste, with all the delicious food to enjoy? Is it sight, and the joy all the lights and decorations bring? Maybe it’s sound, with the music and the bells. Or is it touch, whether it’s the cold snow or the rustle of wrapping paper.
For me, my favorite sense is smell: peppermint, pine, cinnamon…it’s amazing how there are so many smells that can remind you of the same season!
This is my absolute favorite way to instantly infuse your house with the smells of the holidays. One or two pots of this potpourri will last you the entire season too. Really! I bought a little pot at a thrift store and keep this on a back burner all through the winter. Just make sure you keep adding fresh water as it will evaporate. The mixture may turn brown, but I’ve never had a problem with it going bad. If company is coming over I sometimes make a new batch just so it is pretty again 🙂
Can you believe Thanksgiving is only two weeks away?? And Christmas only six?! Your house may not be ready for the holidays, but with this burning on the stove it will sure smell like it!

- 1 tbsp whole cloves
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp vanilla
- sprinkle of nutmeg
- 2 c water
- Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Simmer on low heat. Continue to add water as needed to prevent potpourri from drying out.
5 senses? I thought there were 6! Hahaha I’m just kidding. I love this idea! Nothing beats the smells of Christmas!
For a second I almost believed you! haha. I love it…the smell just makes me happy!
I tried a store bought one the other day and it didn’t smell like anything! What a bummer. This is the better way to go and I can’t wait to try it. 🙂
Oh no, that’s so sad! Yes you’ll have to test this one out instead! 🙂
