Spinach Citrus Smoothie
Well it’s a Monday after a vacation weekend…what can I say? I’m going to be needing a detox of sorts! Kelly and I spent last Thursday to Easter Sunday in Portland, Oregon, celebrating her birthday, visiting cousins and exploring the city. But that’s a post for another day! Be on the lookout for our travel posts later this week. For now…these smoothies.
I have a fear of green things. I’ll admit it. In preschool I refused to eat green eggs and ham. As an adult it took me a reeeaalllyyy long time to try split pea soup. And I’m still wary of green smoothies. I know, I know. You can’t taste the greens at all. But still! I’m a visual person and drinking something green freaks me out. I want pretty and colorful.
If you follow my instagram, you saw I got a box of organic produce from Full Circle Farms. I found a groupon that was an awesome deal! Look at how much stuff I got! There was no way I could have eaten all this though, so I decided to turn it into a smoothie.
The beauty of smoothies is that you can easily substitute for whatever fruit you have on hand or add more spinach if you’re feeling adventurous (unlike me). I’ve never eaten blood oranges before, but my kitchen really did look like I murdered someone after I cut it! I now understand the name.
I seriously cannot even begin to count the amount of calories we ate over the weekend…we were joking we need to do excessive amounts of yoga and go on a juice cleanse this week to make up for it! While we won’t go that far…a smoothie like this every morning wouldn’t be a bad idea 🙂

Spinach Citrus Smoothie
- 1/2 banana
- 4-5 strawberries
- 1 kiwi
- 1 orange
- handful of spinach
- 2 ice cubs
- splash of OJ or other juice (or milk)
- sprinkle of chia seeds
- Blend all ingredients together until combined. Enjoy!
TIPS: Use frozen berries instead of ice cubes. Add more banana for a thicker smoothie. Add more spinach for a more traditional “green” smoothie.
I love smoothies! I usually have to use frozen strawberries/blackberries/blueberries because fresh is just so expensive. Yum! I like to add a little peanut butter to mine.
I like using frozen too…keeps everything colder! 🙂
I’m not really one for green smoothies either…but more fruity colored smoothies I can get behind!!
Ok, I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’d much rather eat things that look appealing! 🙂
You know that I’m all about smoothies, especially now with the warmer weather! I’m so like you…I want to drink “green” but I can’t get past the color. Although I do love my basil smoothie and that’s green. Hmm, I just realized that so maybe there’s hope for me yet to be a green smoothie lover.
I love all of the ingredients in this smoothie and that’s reason enough for me to try it. 🙂
Ooh a basil smoothie?? I might have to try that out! 🙂
