I’ve fallen behind on the baking front lately. I wish my waistline appreciated this mini baking absence but unfortunately since I’ve moved closer to downtown, I’ve been eating out a lot more at some awesome restaurants… So sadly it doesn’t. Here are some yummy places …
I’ve been a little all over the place lately. Two weeks ago I drove through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, helping my boyfriend fiance (still not used to saying this!) move. Last week, I was in Phoenix, Arizona at a high school friends’ wedding. …
I knew these two weeks would be crazy, so I prepared a post ahead of time for today: Road Trip Trail Mix. Then something else happened…I GOT ENGAGED. Sorry trail mix, you’re not exciting enough anymore.
My fiancé (!!!!!) and I have been dating for 7 years. We met at orientation the summer before our freshman year at Boise State University. Both of us were out of state students, didn’t know anyone there, and we just hit it off. We’ve been together ever since!
We’ve been together through undergrad, a year of long distance with Matt in California and me still in Idaho, then through his grad program and now a year of him getting his career started in athletics.
Kelly and I mentioned things were changing around here. While she was starting a new job, Matt also got his first post graduate full time job at the University of Louisiana, Monroe. Yep…Louisiana. Two kids from the Northwest are headed to the South.
I spent all of last week driving with Matt from Boise to Monroe (1,980 miles) and helping him unpack and move in. The last night we were there, Matt got down on his knees and asked if I would start a new adventure with him in Louisiana. I said yes!!
The plan had always been for me to start looking at jobs and eventually move down there as well, but it seems someone has been helping us out along the way. Everything has been falling into place perfectly and I’ve already interviewed and accepted an ultrasound position at the hospital in Monroe. I will be starting next month!
It’s been a whirlwind two weeks! After all of that I had a 6:30am flight the next morning for a friends wedding (I didn’t make it to the ceremony due to flight delays…don’t remind me…) so we haven’t even had time together to really celebrate or make any plans. That’s always why we don’t have any pictures together after he proposed…we were only together about 6 hours and we were sleeping! But it’s all been very exciting.
I guess my Dad has known a few weeks but didn’t tell anyone, not even my mom! And my sister had seen a picture of the ring but didn’t know he had bought it. Sneaky sneaky. Turns out he didn’t really need help…it’s exactly what I wanted!! I can’t stop staring at it.
I have been amazed by the outpouring of love from our families and friends and it hasn’t even been a week! The wedding probably won’t be until spring/summer 2016, but I can already tell it’s going to be one heck of a party.
Remember when I took that cake decorating class to prepare for the wedding that was months away? Well, it’s now only a month a way. Time to kick it into gear! I just started a new job about 3 weeks ago that I love and …
Snickerdoodles are one of those cookies we just didn’t eat as a child. I’m not really sure why, I mean everyone loves them, I just don’t have any memories of making or eating them. They’re also not a cookie you generally see out and about …
Well online dating, we’ve made it almost 3 months but now it’s time to go. It’s not you, it’s me. Really, it’s me. Although, I do not feel that you really listened my responses to those survey questions in the beginning because some of my “matches” were questionable. It’s ok, I forgive you. As I said, it’s not you, it’s me. Maybe we’ll meet again someday…
Until then, here are some more things I have learned/questions I have:
Is it safe to take a car selfie while driving and gazing off down the road like Matthew Mcconaughey in those Lincoln commercials? My first guess would be to say no but judging by the amount of men who have posted one as their picture, I am second guessing myself. I think I’ll experiment one day and try taking one. You know, just to see.
While we are on the topic of selfies, if your selfie only includes your abs, or no face, or a weird pose where only the side of your body is visible and I can see the bathroom stalls in the background, consider taking it down. A normal picture works just fine, even better in fact.
To the man with the cobra tattoo all over your back… why? Is a cobra your favorite animal? Did it hurt? Do you regret it?
I received this message today: “I really wish you would have responded. Out of all the zillions of ways I could have been spending my time, I chose to use some of it trying to court you in hopes of better getting to know you.” No comment… please stop being creepy.
I think I am going to take up knitting. And delete my account…
Only one weekend into the NCAA tournament aaaaannddd my bracket is officially busted. Kelly’s too. We tried to be different and not pick Kentucky to win it all, but that clearly didn’t work out in our favor. Filling out brackets is a yearly tradition. I remember …
Guys, my sister made food last night. And no, it wasn’t boxed mac & cheese. Let me back up. My sister has made some dinners in the past. She’s made homemade ravioli once and mushroom risotto and a veggie quinoa. Yet, she always asks me …
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Last year we gave you an Irish Gold Cocktail and Irish Soda Bread. Then Kelly actually went to Ireland and came back with Irish Brown Bread and a Hot Whiskey drink. You have tons of Irish options, but do you see what we’re missing here? Dessert!
I made Brown Eyed Baker’s Irish Car Bomb cupcakes a few years back and they were TO.DIE.FOR. But…they were pretty time consuming. I’ve been feeling awfully lazy in the kitchen lately, so I decided to forgo the Guinness and Bailey’s and just stick with the Jameson.
These cupcakes are rich: moist and oh so chocolatey with that extra added flavor from the whiskey. Any whiskey or bourbon would work, but I stuck with Jameson to keep with the Irish tradition.
What are your guys’ plans tonight? I’m not a huge St. Patty’s fan, but I’m sure we’ll end up celebrating in some way. Even if it’s just by eating these cupcakes.
Hi friends! Things are getting a bit hectic around LDB right now, which is odd for this time of year. I feel like late winter/early spring there’s usually nothing going on. We started January by making a list of goals for the blog this year …
